7 Winter Must-Haves

As we say goodbye to the skies of blue and welcome the skies of grey for the official 2016 Winter season, it’s time to start packing away your Summer clothing. Dressing for work in Winter is can be a challenge;  one is torn between compromising health to look stylish, and sacrificing style to stay cozy but looking frumpy! Find your balance and look not only chic but totally stylish, without sacrificing warmth. This Winter, the 7 most versatile pieces are:

  1. Trench Coattrench coat

The trench coat is a staple for ladies and gents, and has been around since World War 1. It oozes military flair and is very stylish yet warm. Neutral colours, i.e. black, beige, cream, grey or white make it easier for you to mix and match with your clothes. If you want to stand out go for a bold color like red.

  1. Shift Dress

This is a staple piece as it is very comfortable, stylish and versatile. You can dress it up or down, and if the weather gets too cold, you can wear thick black stockings to beat the chill and still look prim and proper.

  1. Leather Jacket

A leather jacket is a unisex piece. Men can rock the leather jacket at work if they work in a semi-formal work environment or when they go out for a drink with the boys. Women can dress it up or down whether with jeans and grungy boots, a maxi dress or even a pencil skirt and a blouse. Aleather jacket is a timeless piece and it is definitely worth the investment.

  1. Boot

Boots are the most common footwear during this season, and whether they’re thigh high, ankle, flat, or high-heeled, these shoes are a must-have this season. Make sure that they are the right size and they are in a color that complements the items in your closet. This also includes gents; boots complete any Winter outfit with a fashion forward edge.

  1. Slacks

Choose slacks that are not too tight- remember, they are not jeggings or jeans! If you can see your panty line or your junk in the trunk is on show then opt for a size bigger. You wouldn’t want people staring at you or sending the wrong signals to the ‘hottie’ at work. If you prefer tight slacks, blazers and longer length blouses help keep your look work-appropriate.

  1. Blazer

A good blazer has the ability to make others take you seriously at work, hence the golden rule to wear a blazer to meetings. Always opt for good quality fabric and the right fit.

  1. Jeans

Many have casual Fridays at work, so it’s ideal to add jeans to your shopping list. Pick a colour that’s casual yet smart. Be careful with ripped jeans – though it’s Friday, you still have to look professional!

With these 7 items you are guaranteed to conquer the cold stylishly this Winter. Go forth, excel at work, get that promotion, and be not only warm and comfortable, but stylish and gorgeous too.

Summer and autumn have come and gone and it is time to say hello to winter. Now, winter is one of the trickiest seasons to dress for in Zimbabwe and I know most of the women will agree with me on this one. The weather is just unpredictable as it can be freezing cold in the morning and towards noon it will be scorching hot and there you are in town with your winter clothes will be looking like a complete dweeb with your coat and boots. Most women own more summer clothes than winter clothes because the winter season in Zimbabwe is not as harsh as other countries. Boots have since become popular in Zimbabwe especially the suede ones and leather ones. Boots are the most common foot wear during this season and whether they are thigh high, long, ankle, flat, or high heeled these shoes are a must have this season. The other day I spotted a few pairs at one of Bata Zimbabwe stores and a few boots at the flea market stalls and I knew that winter was here. The more boots you have the merrier, I mean hey, a girl can never have enough shoes right. Every woman has to rock the boot-licious trend this winter and here are a few tips to rock those amazing shoes. Long boots If you are wearing long boots and you are wearing a skirt, make sure the skirt is above your knees and if they are thigh high boots, make sure that the skirt is shorter than the boots. If you are wearing the boots with the pants, skinny jeans are a better option as you can easily tuck them in. Short boots Short boots look exquisite with midi skirts/dresses and long dresses and skirts. One can also rock these shoes with pants whether they are skinnies, bootleg or boyfriend jeans. These boots are super stylish. Every woman should at least one of these cute shoes in their closet. Shoots. These are a combination of shoes and boots. They became popular few years back and these are a magnificent creation. These boots are fashion forward and are a must have this season. High heeled boots These are so on trend right now but I would suggest that if you are to buy a pair that is high heeled, try on the pair and make sure you are comfortable and you can walk in them. This is because shoes are meant to be comfortable. If they are not then ditch them and buy that something that you are comfortable in. You would rather opt for a smaller heel or wedges. Leather boots Leather boots are timeless and are worth every penny of your hard earned cash. The trick is to buy a pair that you will wear for the next couple of year. If you are always on your toes opt for the flats that have a simple design. Leather boots are also easy to maintain as you have to take good care of them. Suede boots. These are also timeless but they tend to fade out over time especially the ‘fong Kong’ ones. You will have to figure out a way to take care of them, so as to make them last longer. As for the high heeled boots, please replace the tips when they wear off .You do not want to walk around sounding like there is a woodpecker on your soles of your feet. Not fashionable at all# side eye Things to consider when going shopping for boots Am I comfortable in them? Do they boost my confidence? Are they worth the investment? Do they match my style? Are they my size? Can I walk in them? With these pointer and tips, let’s go out there ladies and rock the Boot_licious trend and turn heads. XoXo the Fashionista
